Everyone loves a walk in the park, even more so a picnic in the park. Italy is lucky to have beautiful weather nearly all year round, and a great way of getting the kids to burn some energy is taking them to Villa La Versilia. Pop into the nearest shop and buy some snacky foods and you can set up base in the park and let the kids run around!
Carnival of Viareggio
The annual Carnival of Viareggio is the most recognised carnival celebration in Italy and in Europe. Lastingly 1 whole month, the celebrations enhance the spirit of this already stunning and lively city. Relax on Lido di Venezia
Lido di Venezia is a beautiful public beach in Viareggio where visitors can relax and enjoy the seafront bars and eateries which all boast a fun and vibrant atmosphere. There are plenty of activities spread across this stretch of sand that will keep the kids occupied; from enjoying a boat ride to simply enjoying the cool ocean. Due to the vast width of this stretch of sand, the beach is NEVER overcrowded, so you can be sure to have plenty of space to relax.
Matteucci Foundation Center for Modern Art
Viareggio is a cultural city full of creative talent, so heading to Matteucci Foundation Center for Modern Art should definitely be on the list for those interested in art. Found in the Provence of Lucca, this art centre hosts a range of contemporary works which will provide art lovers with a great, short-term escape from the sunshine without being too far from the local beaches. This place is a hidden gem that should not be missed!
Taste the local cuisine
As with any city in Italy, you can expect to sink your teeth into some delicious local food, and Viareggio is no different. In many of the restaurants by Lido Beach, you can expect to find a menu with plenty of Italian seafood dishes. The Promenade is an excellent place for finding family-owned cafes and restaurants serving tasty treats!

If you head to the port area of the city, you can book yourself cooking classes with some of the local restaurants which is a great way of teaching your children to cook and to get a bit messy in the process. Forget the language barrier and stuck in as you make some of the Viareggio’s speciality dishes!
