When booking group travel, it differs from how you may book individual seat tickets. There are some very important things you must remember when you’re booking flights as part of a large group, and when we say large group we mean 10+. TravelUp have provided a few things you should consider when booking your group airline tickets, and if you have any questions you can contact us for group flight bookings too.

We must stress that deposits, amount of people to make up a group booking and other variables is dependent on the airline. Please call us if you have any questions or require more information for certain airlines.

Make someone a leader

When completing a search for flights it might be a good idea to get everyone involved, but when it comes to booking make sure there is a leader. This person should then be the point of contact for the airline and the group travelling if they have any queries. The last thing you want is for your e-tickets to be sent to all sorts of different email addresses and someone losing theirs in the “internet space of emails”.

Low cost deposits

It’s important to remember that not all the airlines will have the same policies, but generally many of the airlines that accept group bookings offer very low deposits and don’t require full payment till 10 weeks before departure. This enables all of your party to get the money together and you don’t have to fork out loads of money before hand.

Names do not have to be definite

Again this is dependent on airlines, but many group flight bookings enable you to change your names on the tickets before the tickets are issued free of charge. This means that if someone is not able to make it, you can easily swap out their name for someone else who can make it. This being said, you will not receive a refund if you do not use that seat at all.

Discount airline tickets

Whilst it is not guaranteed, some of the time you may receive an airline group rate so it will be cheaper to book all seats together rather than individually. This helps the whole party save money and also makes it a lot easier for travellers as they do not have to individually book their own seat.

Seated together

When you make a group flight booking, the airline will try their very best to seat you all together as you have booked with a group. You will also have the option to pre pick your flight seat as if you were booking a regular flight seat.

Please be wary that the majority of group flight bookings are non-refundable which means if you need to cancel the entire trip for a reason, you will not receive your money back. You must be absolutely certain that the group are committed to going and if someone can’t make it, you have a back-up person to fill this space.
